Peter A. Hansen, author of the TRAINS February 2008 cover story on President Abraham Lincoln and the railroads, will appear on tonight's NBC Nightly News. His appearance will be part of the network's coverage of the run-up to President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration Wednesday.

Hansen said NBC reporter Tom Costello interviewed him this morning. "They read the story in TRAINS," Hansen said, "and they interviewed me about Lincoln's trip in particular, but we also talked about Harry Truman, Theodore Roosevelt, and a few other presidents."

Hansen, a TRAINS correspondent who lives near Kansas City, said he's excited about appearing on a national broadcast. "This is really neat," he said. "I worked at corporate communications for Sprint for several years. Even though I did my share of PR stuff, I've never been on the nightly news."

The interview with Hansen will be interspersed with interviews Costello conducted with Michael Beschloss, a presidential historian who often appears on television.

The program will at 6:30 Eastern tonight (as always with TV news, subject to change), and will be available on NBC's Web site starting at 10:30 p.m. Eastern
