Waukesha, WI -- The Independent Publisher Books Awards presented an IPPY Award to Kalmbach Publishing Co. May 25 in New York City.

Kalmbach Publishing Co.’s recent release, The Absolute Beginners Guide: Stringing Beaded Jewelry, won a silver IPPY award in the how-to/crafts and hobby category. First in The Absolute Beginners Guide series, the book offers 35 projects with clear, concise directions and step-by-step photos. Author and jewelry maker Karin Buckingham’s simplified techniques help beginning jewelry makers learn the basics of stringing. This comprehensive guide covers topics like selecting the right tools, finding the way around a bead store, and setting up a workspace. A complete pictorial glossary of beads, findings, and tools is included to get newcomers up to speed.

The 2010 IPPY Awards had a total of 3,890 entries, with just 347 receiving medals. Winners came from 42 states, plus the District of Columbia, seven Canadian provinces and six overseas countries. The Independent Publisher Books Awards began in 1996 to honor and increase recognition of the thousands of exemplary independent, university, and self-published titles produced each year.
