Kalmbach to Serve as Exclusive North American Media Partner for AK-Interactive; Launch New Brand in the Modeling Hobby Market
WAUKESHA, WI/NEW YORK, N.Y. – Kalmbach Media (Kalmbach), the content creator of such well-known and respected media brands as FineScale Modeler, Scale Auto, Model Railroader, Trains, and Discover, today announced that it has partnered with AK-Interactive, an international hobby modeling and media company headquartered in Spain. Kalmbach will serve as the exclusive North American publishing partner for AK-Interactive with the domestic launch of a modeling magazine, Damaged, Weathered & Worn Models.
Damaged will feature high-quality photography and stories from the top hobby modelers in the world and will be focused on tips and techniques for models and dioramas from the realms of fantasy and science fiction, a fast-growing segment of the model hobby marketplace.
According to the Hobby Manufacturers Association, the U.S. model hobby industry is estimated to exceed $1 billion in annual sales.

As media partner, Kalmbach will publish four issues of Damaged over the next year beginning in November. The 80-page premium magazine will be printed in the 8.25 x 11.75 trim size, with a cover price of $9.99. In addition, Kalmbach will develop a digital presence for Damaged content, and promote Damaged and AK-Interactive products across its print and digital platforms.
Kalmbach’s digital media websites and other platforms across the Kalmbach portfolio of brands reach more than 35 million consumers. New and expanded sites have witnessed double-digit growth in the past year and now reach over 4.6 million monthly UVs across the Kalmbach digital media group. Its magazines reach an audience of more than one million consumers.
